Prior to this post, first and foremost, I would like to thank Andrew Ng, one of the member from the establishment for inviting me, as a media, on this year 2017 CAFE MALAYSIA event which held recently.

The 3-day exhibition introduced some of the latest innovations, developments and technologies at exclusive workshops, classes and demonstrations by industry experts on everything coffee and tea.  Sasa Sestic, World Barista Champion 2015, spoke on   ‘The Importance of Quality and Freshness of Green Beans in Our Cafes’ at the show’s inaugural Malaysia Coffee Forum. The Australian barista was joined by Henry Wilson, CEO and Founder of Perfect Daily Grind, who presented his thoughts on ‘Specialty Coffee: Building a Digital Brand’ and delved deeper into the rise of social media in building relationships with customers.

The crowds at Café Malaysia 2017 were also thrilled by the competitors of the three national championships, Malaysia National Barista Championship 2017 (MBC), Malaysia Latte Art Championship 2017 (MLAC) and Malaysia Brewers Cup Championship 2017 (MBrC). The winner from each respective national championship will represent Malaysia at the world coffee championships at Budapest, Hungary and Seoul, Korea.

Café Malaysia is organized by Conference and Exhibitions Management Services (CEMS) and is hosted by the Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association (MSCA). MSCA is a member of the ASEAN Coffee Federation (ACF). The event is supported by Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau and endorsed by MATRADE.

Crowd learning new products.

New technology for coffee.

Fancy booth by MILKLAB.

I like this guy, felt like I have seen him before in Publika.

The Frost is a company that manufacture ice machinery for icy cold dessert. The outcome is really fantastic.

Monin booth.

Crowd go crazy for their fellow friend that compete for the best rank.
So honored to be there as a media (blogger) this year, which allowed me to witness new products as well as approaching several new business partners for future venture. Also, I was really amazed with the latest coffee machine product by SAECO due to its mobility, size and its outstanding market price, which tempts me to buy one for myself.
In short, feeling thankful that I'm able to keep myself up-to-date with the latest news and trends, after 6 months of idle from the coffee world.

What's up ladies & gentlemen? I'm posting this now to share with you my experienced in FoodGasmFest 2015 which is happening right now in Dataran Petaling Jaya!

FoodGasmFest is an event which occurs occasionally to collaborate with any other event or sponsors, to provide good vibes to the public by hosting enormous vast of gastronomical delight, ranging from finger food to savory mains, from refreshing drinks to icy cold smoothies and all kinds of wonderful desserts that lay on the tray.

To reach to the destination, you have two options.
-If you are traveling by car, you will have to be there early. Expect stand-still traffic.
I was there 10 minutes early prior to the event (0950hr).
-If you are traveling by LRT, it should be easy and you don't have to worry about where to park your vehicle. As time goes on, doubt there will be a park spot for you. Don't cry.
-If you are traveling via motorbikes, this is pretty easy. Overtake like a king, reach on-site in minutes.

The attached image above shows the vendor plan setup by the FoodGasmFest, convenient for you to search for your all time favorite vendor.

Me, walking towards the site. I can see huge crowd queuing up for food from a distance!

Taking a picture at the middle of on-site.

Apart from food and beverage vendors, there are several food trucks as well.

One of my favorite bakery stall so far. I couldn't search for them in Facebook. If you happen to know what's their Facebook link, please leave a comment below.

Things that I ate in FoodGasmFest ...
Chicky Chicken Sandwich (RM 8.00), perfectly toast bread that filled with chicken sliced, green vegetables and sinful thousand island sauce.

The Tokyo Burger (RM 1.00) each. They are quite tiny, most likely finger food to me.

Moist Chocolate Brownie with Salted Caramel Butter Cream (RM 8.00). This seriously is a sinful piece of brownie that I had ever taste. Very moist in its brownie texture, glazed perfectly with its salted caramel butter cream on top.

Other than that, if you are a fan of a vape device, there is a tent that sells custom-made e-juice for your mod.
#VapeOn

What to expect/prepare prior to the event:
-Wear a cap or bring an umbrella if you need one.
-Don't try to overdress yourself with good outfit, because the weather can be hot or wet.
-Overdress is one thing, footwear is another, so either wear a comfortable sports shoe or a rain boots ... A no-no to flippers because I had mine constantly stuck in quagmires.
-Bring more cash with small notes.
-Bring a picnic cloth if you need one.
-Come to the site early because you are not the only one who attend to this event.
-Stay hydrated at all times.

Just another blog post that I wanted to share with you all during my free time~
A cafe that is moderate in space but has its own unique interior inside.
Meet VCR, located at Jalan Galloway, few metres away from Swiss-Garden Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
VCR located at the corner, few steps away from Swiss-Garden Hotel, but the parking here is limited.
You have to be here early for a good spot so that your vehicle will not stand a chance of getting tow away. Otherwise, you can park inside the hotel or a pay-parking space near Jalan Alor.
However, during night time, less worried about being tow away.(but still have to be cautious)
Hop hop hop!

No matter day or night, this place is always occupied by coffee enthusiasts.

Very neat workstation, indeed.

To keep this post short, will be highlighting best part, below:
Top Left: Black Velvet
Bottom: Latte
Top Right: Cold Brewed Black Coffee
I love the Black Velvet, its the best- good texture, the cream on top finish off just nice and not too sweet.
The latte was great and smooth, accompanied by fine-line art.
One thing that I disliked would be the Cold Brewed, very light in bodied, slightly bitter than usual - totally not my coffee preference.

First floor, as if you are in a container but with the glass panels at the side for good view.

And.... Here's VCR during night time.
I was there when they have #PicitPlay event on 22 August 2015!
An acoustic music event, open for public - admission is free!
The event held in VCR with an open mic concept whereby public can enjoy themselves within the living room, featuring:
-Leaism
-Saturday Afternoon
-Kimalogy

Public enjoying themselves within the melody.

I'm enjoying my cappuccino outside, somewhere near the main entrance :)

Sipping my Capp and little did I noticed... flashbacks all over my mind. What a night to have a reminiscent.

Woke up in the morning, first thing first on my daily basis - is to scroll through Facebook News feed. Then, I was stumbled by this event, created not long ago by the Yellow Brick Road and with zero-chance wasting, I immediately sign-up for the limited slots by clicking "JOIN".
Yeap, Yellow Brick Road will be conducting their first ever Coffee Cupping session on 19 AUGUST, at Wicked Pancake Parlour. Hosted by their Head Barista / Malaysia's Barista Champion, Jason Loo.
I can't wait to experience it!

Wednesday, 19 August 2015

The day has finally come, whereby Yellow Brick Road hosts their first time ever, Coffee Cupping 101 in Wicked Pancake Parlour. Very casual cupping session whereby everyone in the event can have a glimpse on 'how cupping session' works. No experience needed in this coffee cupping session as this is YBR's first time hosting this event, as well as, the Head Barista will brief everyone about the cupping session in general.

So what's Coffee Cupping?
:-Coffee Cupping or Coffee Tasting is a practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee. It is a professional practice but can be done by anyone.
-Moreover, the coffee beans that are use in the session, must be a specialty coffee bean(s), that must achieve at least, 80-points and above, in grading scale.
-Every specialty coffee bean have their own characteristic/profile to evaluate on.
-At times, some barista conduct coffee cupping sessions on selected specialty coffee beans to find a suitable mid-point where both parties, the barista and the customer will like it or find it suitable to preference. This process will allows the barista to set which beans to use for the business.

On the table, the specialty coffee beans featured from Nucaragua, El Salvador, Ethiopian, Colombia and a few more others.

Taster's Flavor Wheel for guidance or additional information.

These are the criteria on coffee cupping.
Here's the link to guide you about the terms that you need to know :) [Click]

To simplified the steps we did on coffee cupping:

The event start off by knowing each of the available specialty beans on top of the table, a quick insight of how the beans' shape looks like, the color intensity, physical aroma and so on.

Moving on by grinding all of the coffee beans, when it come out grinned - we were asked to double tap at the side of the bowl that filled with grounded coffee and then smell it.

Next, hot water is added into every grounded coffee bean. Identify the "Wet Aroma" by sniffing on top of the liquid. After that, scoop the top layer (the remains that float) into a waste cup.

Take a new spoon, scoop up some coffee and then slurp each of the coffee varietal at multiple times to ensure accurate judgement.

Out of many varietals, I found two varietals that are so unique.
The first would be Panama Mamarata Geisha (Washed) roasted by The Roast Things.
Secondly, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe (Natural) roasted by Artisan Roast Coffee.
These two have very strong hint upon tasting it. I can't imagine how it taste like when infuse with milk!

What an amazing experience! It's my first time on cupping session and I get to taste many of the specialty coffee varietals! Moreover, I get to solved all of my doubts or curiosities by asking the head barista. I believe there are many more to learn.

A quick group picture before everything ends!

Looking forward for more upcoming sessions, cant wait to learn something different in the future!

Stay Tune,
Thanks for reading!

Are you craving for fresh bake cakes & homemade desserts on a weekend like this?
In this post, allow me to present you, Souka - your one stop neighbourhood bake shop that
produce heavenly delicious desserts & cakes.
Souka is an old-fashioned bake shop which nestled in the heart of Subang Jaya
so people in the surrounding could easily reach them for what their craving needs.

Souka's front view perspective. Might be a little difficult for those who are looking for the shop when they are searching from a different angle or perspective.

Here's the outdoor seats and the entrance into the shop.

The counter.

Before I forgot, Souka also brew fresh coffee and teas ! If none of them suits you, feel free to get yourself free water  , prepared at the counter top.
If you are a coffee lover, Souka uses coffee beans from RG Beans roastery that have two types of single origin. Be sure to ask the barista on what type of beans are in-use on the particular time-frame!

The cakes and desserts section is slightly further away (Behind) from the counter, so before you make any order, walk in further, and that's where you can choose your cakes and desserts !

They sell cookies !  nnoomm nooommmmn!

Several cakes and desserts are store properly in the chiller.

Several cakes or desserts placed on the counter top (non-chill area).

pops malaya ! available for sale too ! Go grab em' as our country often under the effect of "dry spell".
Wanted to know more what they have in their shop? List of menu provided at the end of this post!

Let's check-out the interior and the environment of the shop, shall we?

Love these. These are the ones that turn me on.

Combination of vintage & antique sort of feels.

Shelves that filled with simple yet beautiful props.

Notice the light bulbs? It has the whisk design, protecting the bulbs!

Down to the main point!

I have ordered the Chocolate Mousse Pie (RM 10), Oreo & Mint Chocolate Cake (RM 15).
As for the beverages, passion fruit soda (RM 5) and Long Black (RM 7 *If i'm not mistaken ^_^*)

I personally love mint flavor very much so it suits perfectly into the chocolate cake. However, not everyone loves mint in their edible items... , so decide wisely on which cake you are about to order. As for the Chocolate Mousse Pie, the chocolate has balance of sweet, not too overpowering and the texture was soft! Great!

Banoffee @ RM 8.00. Bananas topped with cream and toffees!

This is my personal faveee! Salted Caramel Chocolate @ RM 15.00. The caramel is so strong which i like it that way! The chocolate sponge of every layer , i could just slice them through, effortless.

Anyone want some? Here's the Peanut Butter Pie @ RM 10.00. The texture of the peanut butter is the same as the texture of a mousse!

Tadaa, these makes the everything!

On the other hand, I finally found the combo-wombo !
To enjoy your cakes to the fullest, get the French Rose Tea @ RM 15.00 ! Oh don't worry about the water depletion, they allow to refill hot water !

BONUS Content!

I'm so lucky to be there on their preparation moment of a private event & able to witness how things are done professionally.
Souka & Team, proud to host any private event(s) as per request!
In this private event, I notice the cakes and desserts were prepared in custom requests, how interesting is that?

The team is busy setting up the table before the time comes!
Final outcome:

Bridal shower of Profiteroles!

Custom made cake!

!Summary!

The one and only old-fashioned bake shop that bakes their cakes fresh from the oven would be in Souka ! The staff in Souka are friendly, so any inquiries, they will be more than happy to assist you. To me, the price well-justified the cake size and taste which everything works relatively good, no doubt. Besides selling cakes and desserts, they also sell several western food just in case you are looking for warm food that can really satisfy your tummy. Oh by the way, as I mentioned above, Souka welcomes your request on hosting private events and fulfilling your custom bake cake(s), scroll below for the contact details! (Terms & Conditions definitely apply :D )

Last but not least, looking forward to see what else Souka can come up with their new product to attract the customers.
