Me recommending you an accommodation to check-in and stay? No - not in this post, as I will be reviewing one new hidden gem restaurant in the heart of Petaling Street Kuala Lumpur in which I had just paid them a visit recently.

Yes, I know I'm slow when it comes to catch-up of new restaurant, cafe or whatsoever and I also considered that I have no match against Time Out KL or eatdrinkkl blog. Nonetheless, Chocha Foodstore has been operating weeks ago, under Mah Lian Hotel disguise. I was attracted by their restaurant concept of preserving the existing interior environment that had utilized in the past and their ideal of delivering casual, comfort and unique food to the diners based on fresh local ingredients, makes it even more attractive and a spot to die for.

Yes, the entire sensation is pretty calming as you step into the doors of the old shop, occupied with furnitures, old-classic props and floras that made you feel like home. Somewhat, it express the vibes of the oldie oriental that you can no longer experience elsewhere unless you replicate it based on this concept.
Today, culinary is not just a food, but it is also a work of art to represent the person's personality and expression.
Middle section of the shop, had a small al-fresco. The rest will be air-conditioned.
Kerabu Mango Slaw @ RM 15
A plate filled with green mango, cabbage slaw, fish sauce, chilipadi, peanut, lime juice and dried shrimps. The flavor is vibrant and the heat is there that it won't hurt your mouth. The onion slice, peanuts and chives helps to elevate the aroma of the dishes.

Aglio Olio with Duck Breast @ RM 22.
Homemade noodle, spiced duck confit, garlic confit, thai basil and lemongrass.
Honestly, the homemade noodle was mediocre as it just simply taste like the ordinary yellow noodle where you can obtain from the Chinese hawker stall. All in all, the other ingredients such as spiced duck confit and the garnishes helps to improve the taste of this dish.

Ulam Stew Barley Rice @ RM 28
A bowl of ulam pesto, shaved salted egg, crispy dried shrimps, sauteed fresh squids.
This dish stands out among the rest of the items that I ordered mainly because the flavor of the overall dish itself was perfect and unique. Ulam pesto was just nice (not  too overpowering from the herbs) when it infused with the barley rice and perfect synergy with the rest of the ingredients such as sauteed dried squids and shaved salted egg.

Cold Brew Tea - Gold Rush @ RM 16.00
There's no way you can withstand hot weather except cold stuff like this. I had this bottle of Hojo's original blended tea, using natural farming black tea from Yunnan mixed with natural flowers and spices. Despite its brewing method, it managed to give me sweet fruity aroma such as dried peach or mango and mellow taste.
Note: Hojo is a Japanese tea brand that specialized in premium Japanese tea, Taiwanese tea and Chinese tea. The store can be found in Mid Valley shopping mall.

Personal verdict
Ulam stew barley rice is the best dish by far and the cold brew tea is great. Loving the environment, as it reminds me of Merchant's Lane (few steps away). Would like to drop-by again in the future to try their hot brew tea and other food item.

Hey coffee shops, its been awhile since I hop like a mad bunny, to get my caffeine fix. It is Wednesday 22nd of June today, a weekday whereby I'm suppose to be in university but has turned out to be a public holiday for all the local citizen of Malaysia, coincidentally, I was in Sri Petaling, a place flooded with the rapid growth of coffee shops. That's where I found Neighbourhood Coffee by accident.

Neighbourhood coffee just open recently (months ago), captivated me at first sight with its simplicity, clean and minimalist interior. I love it when they have large window panels to give out natural lighting for crazy 21st-century Instagramers !

1# Quick info:

They serve All-Day Brunch (until 5pm), variety of Panini(s), Churros (highlight items), cakes & pastries, last but not least, coffee and tea.

2# Quick info:

Are you a coffee connoisseur, then this is the place for you to chill, sit back and enjoy your cuppa Joe~ as they rotate their beans periodically so that coffee fanatic like you, get to taste different bean profile.

1) Smores Mini Tart @ RM 3.50

A tart with charred marshmallow on top filled with chili chocolate fillings. Looks cute, mini and appetizing from the outside, unfortunately, the taste was mediocre. Also, it is quite hard to split it apart, literally need two forks or a hand to split em.

2) Mary's Berries @ RM 17.00

Icing sugar dusted churros with strawberries slices, blueberries, dark chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream sprinkled with cereal flakes. It has semi-crisp (outer layer) upon slicing through the churro but quite doughy in-texture. If you love this kind of churro texture, this place is for you. If you prefer it to be crispy inside-out, this place probably not for you. Overall, not bad for a quick bite.

3) Cappuccino @ RM 11.00

It is a medium roast coffee blend of 50% Brazil (natural) and 50% Mexican (wet) that gives a balance cup full bodied, hint of chocolate and nutty flavors.

I don't mind coming back here again to try their other churros menu~

I love cakes. Cakes are the most beautiful man-made edible object, that has its own identity to express when one consumes it. In fact, it can reduce stress level with a small amount of percentage.

Jokes aside, Sugar & Butter by 126kitchen surprised me with their renowned Belgium Chocolate Ganache Tart (Picture, scroll further) - as it was delicious at multiple bites due to the chocolate taste and texture. Surprisingly, there's no flour and sugar in use! Women who love chocolate don't have to feel guilty anymore as the sugar and starch content is at its minimal level.

I considered Sugar & Butter's location quite hideaway as it was secluded deep inside Damansara Perdana and no crowd to be seen.

On my way through, I see choices of cakes await me on a marble table. I found out that they serve more chocolate-based cakes during my visit, and secretly whispered in me, "They are chocolate-lover eh?".

Seating wise, inside fairly limited of seats - up to maximum of 12 person at a time. Accompany with air conditioned and dim lighting but still visible. Otherwise, opt for outdoor with good number of seats available, however, there's no fan or table fan at your service- your luck depends on natural wind blow.

"Hmm, which one should I taste first?"

Peanut Butter Cake
Close up view.
Not exactly a fan of Peanut Butter, but this cake looks gorgeous at first sight. But how does it taste like? Well, it taste like peanut butter cream at soft to medium bodied taste with smooth and yummy chocolate sponge cake. Forking through the cake was simply orgasm as every bits of it was superb fine.
Cross-sectional view.

Sirup Bandung Cake
Close up view.
Something else this time, I had decided to taste a cake with a Malaysian twist, the Sirup Bandung.
Actual Sirup Bandung is actually a Malay beverage that consists of evaporated milk flavored with rose cordial, giving a pink color to its appearance.
I'm literally feasting on a rose cake, that topped with rose-flavored frosting, edible roses and fruitful of lychee. To be honest, this one was pretty ordinary.
Cross-sectional view

Spent 2 hours in Sugar & Butter, enjoying cakes and photography was quite a memorable one because I love it when you can enjoy something like that far away from the crowd or the hotspots.

To summarize,
-You wanna look fit but craving for chocolate, go for BCGT.
-Lots of chocolate-based cakes here.

When my friends were wondering what's so great about drinking specialty coffee everyday, I would usually advice them to visit Cream before jumping into any conclusion or simply judging without their sense on. A place that not many will know of and it is one of the best cafe, serving the best specialty coffee in town. Cream is actually under The Roast Things, a company that roast coffee beans. They are known for roasting good grade of specialty coffee and supply the beans throughout the nation.
Cream c/o The Roast Things is situated deep within the corporate area where only the locals will know about this place by heart. So most of the locals within the area are working adults - grabbing the coffee-on-the-go pretty much give them a good energy to move on. For stranger like me, well, gotta catch up with the coffee scandals in order to discover place like this :P

Interior was pretty laid back for me, as I love simple white and grey walls with contemporary furnished wooden furniture around me. Accompany with fresh flower pots stood still beside the windows while slowly indulge a cup of coffee - is the things that I would wake up for, every single morning.
I started my morning in Cream by having a cup of cappuccino. The blend that Cream uses for my cappuccino (applies to all white coffee only) consists of 30% of Guatemala Piedra Azul, 30% of Kenya Kiungu and 40% of El Salvador Vila Galicia, which resulted in a good balance cup of coffee.

"Dream workstation"
"Hand brew / Filtered Coffee of Specialty Coffee"
Knowing that I'm already here in Cream which carries variety of specialty coffee beans, so I decided to increase the damage to my wallet for this filter-coffee :P
//As far as I noticed, most of the cafe in Klang Valley only serve a hot cup of filtered coffee, but here in Cream, they serve one hot and one iced because they want you to taste the coffee in different temperature.
Allowed me to introduce you to Tanzania Kanji Peaberry (washed). This bean characteristic has hint of prunes, black current, canned fruit and it is dense in bodied. To my surprise, this bean is very bright in acidity compared to other beans that I have tried during my past. As for the iced version(right), it reminds me of having a cold brew coffee in Brewmen because it has a similar taste and characteristic that I can never forget of...
It was worth-it to ordered em'.

If you are coffee lover, then this is a must to visit this place as they are providing high grade & quality of specialty coffee for all consumers. Cream also mentioned that they will be hosting various of coffee workshop in the near future to educate the people whom have the same mindset as them. Before I forget, Cream only serve sandwich and cakes, so please do not be disappoint as they have space limitation.
Other than that, watch out for their promotions / shout outs via social media, description below.

Few days after Merchant's Lane Cafe grand opening, finally managed to create some free time for myself to pay them a visit :)
Honestly, it took me minutes to spot the entrance to the cafe due to the cafe aren't attractive-friendly, (cannot be spot by driving or from a distance).
So, you have to look up for this* stationery store, just beside ATC college. As you walk closer to the store, you are able to see a stairway to Merchant's Lane Cafe.

*Update- Merchant's Lane now built turquoise/teal wooden door at the entrance, look for it. It is easier to locate them now.

Board that you should notice :)

As you walk up, first thing that you will see would be the rack filled with heritage props. Grab the menu, find a seat, decide the items you need and order at the counter.

This entire property fulfill with heritage as well as several contemporary design to it, which what makes the business got into trend on the social medias platform. The whole idea of the owner of MLC, was to preserve the heritage element and to conduct the F&B business in here, moreover, the geographical location for the business is the key point which able to attract number of people into it.

How do you control your excitement when this place is so cool?

 Instagramers be like...

The interior and the furniture used, got me transverse back to the 80's.

Very homey and comfortable living hall which what makes the best place to chill for all-day-long.

Book that grants you the knowledge to unlock the ancient, forbidden ways of...(secret)

Here's the menu, you can have a look here before you visit them :)

This is Cappuccino at the size of 5 oz, RM 11.00. Noticeable berry and several citrus notes, smooth and creamy.

Itadakimas Pancake at the price of RM 20.00. Its delicate when it has fried eggs, noodle crackers and topped on with cabbage, crispy beef bacon and served with BBQ and mayo sauce.

Mini's Handcrafted Tea for 2 pax at the price RM 15.00 , give a unique flavor despite stated as Oolong tea. Reason why I'm hooked by this handcrafted tea was because there's a hint of cinnamon aroma within the liquid.

Rose Honey Milk, RM 12.00 - Basically milk that mixed with honey and topped with edible rose petals. P/S: serve in hot and not so sweet as you think it is :)

Gobber Cake, RM 13.00 - It may looks like a yam cake in general, but mind you that this isn't yam cake. To me, it has a tiny hint of Chinese moon cake taste and a little hint of Coca Cola taste in it. Overall, it was delicate to my preference !

Salted Caramel Cookie, RM 13.00 - Not many cafes able to serve a good salted caramel cookie cake. Here, in Merchant's Lane ç¾ŽçœŸæž—, serves the best salted caramel cookie cakes in Selangor. Every texture and taste of this cake counts! From crispy cookie, to the finest sponge cake...

So, just in case if you are somewhere around in Petaling Street, you might want to drop-by here for a quick relaxation, here is the place for you- staying away from the crowd of the market.
