If you've heard or visited the reputable cafe named The Mechanic in Cheras C180, then you are definitely in the loop of their new expansion. This Core by The Mechanic is a new cafe expansion by the parent cafe, serving more or less similar products, in lite version - due to the size of the shop is small.

Visited the Core during their soft launch at 2 PM, quite upset that the hot food were completely sold out. What's left is the pastries and beverages. Most patrons at that point of time were just enjoying pastries or chilling with drinks. Interior of the cafe won many heart, hence, this place considered as a place to chill, for now.

Tried one of the pastry, Natsui, very interesting components that they got there. Sesame mousse accompanied with salted caramel spread and bits, topped with cream and dark chocolate piece. One of the best taste and flavour dessert at the moment. Everything just mingle well together.

Coffee wise, quite standard, bold and balance. A cup of coffee that can easily enjoy by everyone.

To get here, be early as you can, preferably in the morning so that parking is not an issue. Don't miss out the patisserie. For food review, can't comment at the moment.

Stellar is a small, open-concept coffee bar hiding in plain sight inside RexKL, a cultural center and a creative hub near Chinatown. They serve coffee & tea, wine & cocktail as well as bakeries.

The team passionate in cultivating specialty coffee culture to the community, thus serving farm-to-cup coffee experience with the customers at the bar for better understanding towards a cup of coffee.
Seating capacity can be limited during peak hours and most seating scattered within the area.

Enjoyed this hand brewed Ethiopia Kochere (RM 15) from Stellar, juicy syrupy tactile, very long aftertaste of mandarin orange coupled with jasmine and guava notes.

Best enjoy with coffee is the Blueberries Cheesecake. Subtle acidity with delicious blueberries flavored cheesecake to pair with a cup of coffee. Soft and creamy, melt easily in your mouth. The only negative remark from this cheesecake is the slightly soggy crust bottom.

Where to chill when you are in Jonker Street Malacca? Check out this rustic themed coffee shop within the Jonker Street area named The Coffee JAR.
A very small sized coffee shop that aimed to serve micro-roasted coffee beans to the locals, accompanied with mural, dry out walls and the coffee roasting machine.

For wholesale, inquire more.

I had the Panama Finca Nuguo Geisha Natural process at the price of RM 30.00 per serving. The bodied of the coffee is quite balance and elegant notes of aroma. However, I think the roasting approach can be further develop longer for more bodied and after taste.

As such, you will walk into the memory lane of the oldies, row of cassette tapes on the shelves. Unsure if they can be play. Most of the tapes are classical Chinese. Very preserved.

Stumbled when I found out there's another hidden gem located in Puchong. This place (Sipping Corner by Plant & Pot Studio) by far has the most greenery element in its shop because ... well, as suggested by the name of its business.
You will feel cozy, covered by leafy sanctuary and somewhat escaped from the hectic environment.
Great place for patrons looking for a place to study, work on their assignments or an intimate dating spot.
Sipping Corner specialized in offering specialty coffee (hand brew/espresso-based), tea, non-caffeinated beverages and cakes.

This is their signature beverage, Cream Coffee, priced at RM 16. Sweet iced coffee blessed with smooth creamy cheese parfait on top.

Similar to the drink above, this drink is a matcha-based drink with smooth creamy cheese parfait.

I like this Earl Grey Grapefruit cake (RM 14), delicious, not too sweet and I'm a big fan of grapefruit.

To expand my boundaries and knowledge on specialty coffee, I came across to this new independent coffee shop called RINSE. RINSE is managed by a very young, talented and passionate individual named Mervy, who often labelled himself as the "Brew God". Prior to his very first opening in RINSE, he worked under several reputable cafes in the past and greatly honed his skill as a barista over the years.

One day he realized that not many knows or appreciate specialty coffee, therefore, his dream to educate other strangers on specialty coffee became a reality with RINSE, which is a place where anyone nearby could come by and have a drink, perhaps, to receive free education on what is coffee all about. He stated that he will conduct weekly coffee education by having the local roasters to display their sample beans around!

Oh, did I forget to mention that the weekly coffee education is FREE of Charge?

On that particular day, I was lucky to have a great session with Cloud Catcher Asia in RINSE, a reputable roaster that is first founded in Singapore then Malaysia. They shared a variety of great samples with us and we get to know more stories behind the beans. With all these moment, they as a key coffee player hope that we could give more support to the coffee industry as a whole, the brighter future of specialty coffee will prevail.

The cupping session.

A brief hiatus in cafe-hopping ever since I got my own v60 kit. Until recently, I found this cafe by fate via Facebook I guess? The name itself, Craft Origin, had already given me an unusual vibe, literally telling me that such cafe probably exists somewhere else out of Klang Valley... Little did I know, this cafe operates only a few months old ago in TTDI!
Also, what caught my attention the most was the coffee beans that they offered. That is why I'm down to it, feeling thirsty and 'needly' to try one of their bean: Panama Finca Hartmann roasted in China.
Friendly barista, Rachel, accustomed to my preference, slowly brewing it with ideal temperature (89 degree Celsius)  to ensure the extraction of the coffee is able to express towards the brighter notes.
Candid-shot of everyone and everything in the cafe

🠓Filter Coffee (Pour Over) @ RM 16🠓
Yes, above with me is the Panama Finca Hartmann that I mentioned earlier, brewed at the ideal temperature of 89 degree Celsius. Upon drinking it at hot temperature, this bean expressed intense aroma of winery and complexity of fruity and floral aromas - acidity and brightness yet to shine but overall it gives heavy bodied and tea-like finishing.
As the temperature cools down, the brightness and acidity starts to shine in my mouth and the aroma remained constant.
To conclude, I like the coffee, it is recommended to try for those love such characteristics or a fan of Panama coffee beans.

🠓Cappuccino @ RM 10🠓
House blend of 3 countries' coffee bean that pair well with any milk based coffee. Its pretty well balance and easy to drink, in general. No further comment.

Other than coffee and tea, Craft Origin also serves food and cakes (I did not try any of them), therefore, if you are available during your free time and no where to go, maybe you can give it a try.

For coffee connoisseurs, this would be the place for you to have your cup of coffee as the baristas are skilled and experienced. Another great coffee shop alternative around TTDI.

I usually don't visit cafe nearby my house due to personal presumption of "things that are generally nearby your house isn't really good" - which is a wrong mindset to have, until one fateful day that I have decided to pay Brew & Bread a good visit.
Brew & Bread has been operating more than 6 years ago and still counting...
Today, they are one of the best cafe in Klang Valley that could serve good brunch as well as specialty coffee to the market.

Prior to the visit, I learnt that Brew & Bread was offering their very new single origin (La Campanula - Apaneca Ilamatepec in El Salvador), a bourbon and SL 28 varietals that underwent fully washed and sun-dried process which resulted in vanilla, red apple and almond tea as the tasting experience that you can obtain from this bean. So then I decided to give it a try. It was a clean cup of coffee I would say, light-bodied and citrusy like red apple and gives out a tea-like finishing at the end of your sip.

Little did I know, I was caffeinated by the coffee because of my empty stomach. Thus, to order their food to recover from caffeine sickness as well as to try their food :P
Meet my very own appealing and seductive Chicken Roulade (RM 19.00). Initially I thought it came in a big portion, unfortunately it is not big in my own point of view. I'm a big eater and I am disappointed with this. However, taste wise was pretty good when your chicken thigh rolled with amazing stuffing, coated with white sesame, brown sauce, pumpkin mash and drizzle of olive oil infused with basil and parsley dip.

After my unsatisfying-small-portion-but-taste-good Chicken Roulade, I called for a plate of Prawn Aglio Olio (RM 15.00) to fill the gap in my tummy. One of Brew n Bread's signature dish, as highlighted on their menu. Great plate of pasta in my opinion as their pasta cooked to perfection of al-dente and blends well with the other ingredients such as fresh prawns, hams, sugar peas, wild mushrooms and not to miss out the seasonings.

I'm astound to learn the news of a new coffee shop (One Half) recently launched their business in an old yet matured area, in Taman Paramount - a place known for its local delicacies such as Nasi Lemak Bumbung, XO fish head noodle and the popular burger sold in nationwide, namely myBurgerLab and many more!

What makes One Half a unique coffee shop that it stands out among the rest in that particular area is that One Half operates beneath Brats's shelter, in result of specialized in serving specialty coffee, delicious cakes and tea as well as their sinful hot-dog bun (brought to you by Brats).
"Why One Half is specialized in serving specialty coffee? Why is One Half so unique among the rest as they only serve coffee, tea and cakes as well as the aid of Brats serving hot-dog bun?"

Long story short, the steamy steampunk helmed by young coffee enthusiasts - Mr. Koay and friends. Keith Koay especially, who recently crowned as the Malaysia Barista Champion 2016 and represented Malaysia to compete in the World Barista Championship 2016 in the city of Dublin as the top contender. With his knowledge and technical skills on brewing a cup of coffee, certainly that any of you who is a coffee connoisseur, would appreciate and fall in love in the state of coffee world under his sleeve. No doubt that his hard work and consistency of practice, has lift him up to a whole new level. Brats is an establishment that sells hot-dog bun with their very own homemade German sausage which makes them a unique eatery that caters the demand. With both establishments collaborating with one another is a plus point, which benefit both side in terms of product varieties has to offer to the walk-ins.

Welcome!
Selection of specialty coffee beans on the counter top.
Here, you may opt for the typical espresso-based coffee or the hand brew coffee. Each brewing method has their own respective beans to go with. So better ask the barista for more details!
Cakes are also available on board. Cakes offer are tentative.

1- Kenya Gathaita AA @ RM 16.00
Hand brewing be like?
During my visit to One Half, I told Keith that I'm looking for something fruity and bright in taste. So he recommended me to try this bean, Kenya Gathaita AA and it fit perfectly right to my buds. This Kenya Gathaita AA  has the taste notes of raspberry, pomegranate and fruit tea. A decent strength of flavor and aroma as well as brightness to it.

2- Lemon Pistachio @ RM 12.00
I had the Lemon Pistachio cake. The texture of each layer of sponge cake, flavor and frosting are good, in my opinion (not too sour and sweet in taste. This cake goes well if you have earthier and darker coffee). The amount of pistachio nuts on top are generous too.

3- Cappuccino @ RM 10.00
Champion is in da house~~ Cuppa Joe is in the making.
Last but not least, it is mandatory to try their white coffee since the champion is in the house. One Half uses their very own blend (mix of Brazil & Columbian beans) to brew this right balance cup of coffee. My personal impression at first sip, it somehow has a punch of unidentified flora and fruity flavor, follow-up by noticeable hint of brightness and acidity. As I continued to drink, it has hint of chocolaty to it. Mild yet sweet, in general.
In conclusion, this place has become one of my favorite in my personal cafe hopping list, due to the excellent cup of coffee that they are able to execute and a quiet place to be in, during day time on weekdays.

Apart from coffee and tea, you may opt for their homemade soda drink or beer. Pertaining to food, Brats hotdog bun is not available for sale yet due to the upgrading in-progress in their kitchen. Best is to wait for One Half or Brats's official announcement.
