The Tan Yiek

The all-you-can get premium ingredients is from The Rare Food Company in Empire Residence. The Rare Food Company serves premium ingredients from different regions, offering engaging food produce and premium selections of alcoholic beverages in town.
A team of wild fire chefs, meticulously produce the finest plate before expediting, flare and flare non-stop. You will be able to see the finest cut of meat being slice, fresh octopus being plate on. Sound and aroma of the sizzling pan from the kitchen really arose the appetite.
If you notice, ratio of the seats are mostly alfresco rather than indoor. Glad that it wasn't that hot or humid choosing seats at the alfresco area because there's sufficient high-powered wall fans around the structure coupled with natural outdoor wind. The alfresco seats overlooking the beautiful residential view of Damansara Perdana.

Started with the appetizer - Pan-seared Iberico Gyozas (RM 28.00). Not the usual typical minced meat fillings inside the skin. They used the premium Iberico that was used for the filling then pan-seared gracefully at the right temperature to retain the succulent inside. The gyozas served with jungle garlic sauce for dipping. For me the gyozas has no difference if I were to compared them against any other gyozas from the Japanese restaurants. Unsure why this dish is in high demand?

Second appetiser for that night - Japanese Oyster Omelette (RM 29.00). A plate of omelette size of a hand palm, moist texture that was cooked right. Topped with fresh Japanese Oysters then highlight with the organic Yuzu and chilli. This dish you will enjoy the acidity and heat from the yuzu and chili, fresh ocean from the oysters.

The third dish that comes in with surprise - Pulpo (RM 78.00). The Spanish Octopus chargrilled to perfection (not rubbery but tender), beautifully charred drizzled gracefully with olive oil & paprika and served with smoked sauce to give a little heat to it. Highly reckon on this! Even the size of it is quite big.

Want some carbs? This is the Wagyu Bacon Don, served with pickled Kyuri & Shitake with Kombu Butter (RM 38.00). It is a small sized rice bowl that they make sure you don't outrun your calories calculator. Portion is just right, kombu smells great, together with the wagyu bacon slices.

The star and limited edition dish is the Uni Scallop Truffle Capellini. No doubt that the uni, scallops and roe are very fresh and delicate to enjoy with the capellini, however, the flavour of the broth seems to be lacking on my taste bud. Until they improvise the flavour, I will still recommend Darren Chin's signature somen.

Personal Summary:
-Reservation is required.
-A place to impress your date with alfresco dining overlooking the beautiful view within Damansara Perdana.
-Be mindful of the portion as well as the price.
-Highly recommended dish: Pulpo
-Consider twice on: Pan-seared Iberico Gyozas & Uni Scallop Truffle Pasta

I love cakes. Cakes are the most beautiful man-made edible object, that has its own identity to express when one consumes it. In fact, it can reduce stress level with a small amount of percentage.

Jokes aside, Sugar & Butter by 126kitchen surprised me with their renowned Belgium Chocolate Ganache Tart (Picture, scroll further) - as it was delicious at multiple bites due to the chocolate taste and texture. Surprisingly, there's no flour and sugar in use! Women who love chocolate don't have to feel guilty anymore as the sugar and starch content is at its minimal level.

I considered Sugar & Butter's location quite hideaway as it was secluded deep inside Damansara Perdana and no crowd to be seen.

On my way through, I see choices of cakes await me on a marble table. I found out that they serve more chocolate-based cakes during my visit, and secretly whispered in me, "They are chocolate-lover eh?".

Seating wise, inside fairly limited of seats - up to maximum of 12 person at a time. Accompany with air conditioned and dim lighting but still visible. Otherwise, opt for outdoor with good number of seats available, however, there's no fan or table fan at your service- your luck depends on natural wind blow.

"Hmm, which one should I taste first?"

Peanut Butter Cake
Close up view.
Not exactly a fan of Peanut Butter, but this cake looks gorgeous at first sight. But how does it taste like? Well, it taste like peanut butter cream at soft to medium bodied taste with smooth and yummy chocolate sponge cake. Forking through the cake was simply orgasm as every bits of it was superb fine.

Sirup Bandung Cake
Close up view.
Something else this time, I had decided to taste a cake with a Malaysian twist, the Sirup Bandung.
Actual Sirup Bandung is actually a Malay beverage that consists of evaporated milk flavored with rose cordial, giving a pink color to its appearance.
I'm literally feasting on a rose cake, that topped with rose-flavored frosting, edible roses and fruitful of lychee. To be honest, this one was pretty ordinary.

Spent 2 hours in Sugar & Butter, enjoying cakes and photography was quite a memorable one because I love it when you can enjoy something like that far away from the crowd or the hotspots.

To summarize,
-You wanna look fit but craving for chocolate, go for BCGT.
-Lots of chocolate-based cakes here.

Where can you find a coffee shop that is placed in an urban area yet gives you clear sight of green scenery with sunlight penetrating on surfaces?
I found this new gem by accident, thanks to a netizen who shared it in a Facebook group which really set me up for this. The Glass House Coffee is a new coffee shop in-disguise with its natural beauty and its simplicity that embrace sunlight into it.
You read it right, they are new - Recently just launched after Chinese New Year. The Glass House Coffee ultimately runs by four people who named Ben, Elaine, Yi and Glen (which is the Head Barista of The Glass House Coffee). Together, they all raise this beautiful space in the hope that they could attract even more coffee enthusiasts as well as becoming one of the best coffee roasters in the industry as time comes.

Interior wise, pretty satisfying to my liking as I love simplicity and neat in the world of design. These elements might sound easy to achieve, however, there are many protocols to obey, well if you know what I mean, dear designers.
The magnificent space also act as a good spot for coffee photography where many dream of.
Not to mention that this is a place perfect for couple and to the maximum of a table for 4 pax - anything beyond, will need to ask for additional chairs.
Wooden furnitures
View from the top. (There's few seats on top tier too)

As a small size coffee shop, they offered reasonable amount of drinks menu that can be refer at the wall behind the bar. Meanwhile, bites such as sandwiches and sweet treats are on its way to service. As an opening promotion, all items will be priced at RM 5.00 for limited time only.

Here, they served espresso-based coffee and filter coffee by using beans from several countries so better not to miss out this great opportunity to try them out. If you have difficulties with caffeine, you may opt for other delightful drinks such as chocolate based drinks or soft drinks.

Knowing specialty coffee best served with hand brew, I have decided to let Glen to take on the deal. Glen has been a barista for number of years and he is very confident and passionate on what he is serving especially with his hand brewing coffee. He showed me a few of his bean collection that he fond of.
Pour over on grounded beans.

1- Hartmann Lot 22, Panama
This is my first drink whereby I told him that I preferred something light, acidic and burst of fruity aroma. In this case, Hartmann Lot 22 from Panama came out perfectly as it promised on the label itself. I have to say, this is a good start to wake your taste bud up in the morning.

2- Malabar - Tanamera, Indonesia
Glen mentioned that he would visit his friend (Mr. John, who is a huge contributor to Tanamera Coffee) in Indonesia occasionally for new coffee beans discovery. Bringing the good source back to Malaysia to share with the local coffee enthusiasts. It has moderate acidity and intensity but surprisingly it has burst of fruitiness in it.

Draws to an end, I personally liked the Malabar, natural processed roasted by Tanamera more, as it provides a balanced cup of coffee that leave a pleasant finishing in my mouth. More over, this place gives a cozy yet mythical modern sensation that I would stay over for so long while enjoying the coffee. Unfortunately they are rather new now and hoping to see more new stuff that they are adding in :)

What do you think?

Bello, if you have visited my blog lately, yes, I've been blogging quite often these few days. To be honest, most of the posts are supposed to publish one day after my visitation, however, there are other higher priorities need to be settle down first!

Okay back on track, meet Closer Kitchen & Espresso Bar, which located in Mutiara Damansara, beneath a multiple corporate building - that is most likely to attract walk-ins like executives, professionals and even nearby residence.
Elegant dining area interior with wooden rectangular and hexagon shape of tables accompanied with furnished black wood chairs, black stainless steel of shelves rack to act as a centerpiece and also bay windows designed ideas.

If you preferred bench cushion seat in order to enjoy your meal, probably its here (below).
This area, a row of bench cushion added with plain color pillows for extra comfort as you sit on it. Otherwise, opt for those black wooden chair. Along the bench cushion, you will see a prism pendant light dangling in the middle.

Here is the Closer Kitchen & Espresso Bar's menu list.
Closer Kitchen & Espresso Bar also offers lunch-value pack for customers, which is not stated on the menu list, so better ask the cashier on-duty about the daily deal.

My Food & Drinks.
1- Green Scrambled Eggs With Baked Portobello (RM 19.00)
The name of the menu item described it all. Basically scrambled eggs fused with pesto served with two slices of  toast bread and two baked portobello mushrooms. I personally say that this dish's portion isn't enough for me. Not worth the value for such breakkie. I want more despite the taste is good from the food.

2- LUNCH Special 21
This lunch set cost (RM 21.00 for Caesar Salad & Teriyaki Chemistry), top-upped additional RM 8.00 for a cup of Cappuccino.
Caesar Salad.
This plate of Caesar salad comes with few teared apart romaine lettuces in caesar dressing, cherry tomatoes and topped with a parmesan basket. The portion of this plate ends very quickly in few bites as this is just only a appetizer. Taste wise... pretty ordinary to me.

Teriyaki Chemistry
Cranberry walnut bread filled with mixed lettuce, thick & succulent chicken infused in teriyaki sauce and topped with sauteed shiitake mushrooms. Serving by the side of this bread would be wasabi mayonnaise. I really like this meal as the uniqueness comes from the succulent chicken that infused in teriyaki sauce. Thus, this makes it even more exquisite when feasting as a whole with the cranberry walnut bread.

Cappuccino
Ended my brunch with this cuppa-Joe that uses single origin from Colombia, roasted by Artisan Roast of Malaysia. It is a medium-bodied coffee that has a little of berry notes and noticeable chocolaty note.

In case you wanted to visit Closer just for the coffee, this is the place. Closer does hand brew coffee as per request, which is RM 12.00/cup. As for me, I will be back to try their hand brew next time to see what their coffee beans can offer to my sensory :)

What' up? Here's another simple, not so detailed blog post about The Curious Goat.

To me, The Curious Goat can be consider as a hidden gem or speakeasy due to their location and there is no business board at the front of their entrance. Do not worry - it is very easy to detect their shop via waze and just look for a shop that is painted in black!

Went there last week and I enjoyed being there because its a perfect cafe getaway from crowds.

Loving the wall art work! Such artistic work that display on the wall to impress customers.

Had a cup of Cap during gloomy day.

:Verdict:
Perfect spot to chill, friendly barista but one thing that I left out is for not trying their food and cakes because I just had Haraju Cube an hour before I went to The Curious Goat!
