Kepong's favourite - D'Fotune Western is one of the most happening restaurant and best cheap eat in Pusat Bandar Menjalara, that has been serving the community for quite number of years at a very affordable price in the neighbourhood.

From afar, it may look like a mamak restaurant due to the typical signage design & color used, the dining area expanded towards outdoor area as if it really looks like one, well the truth about it is that the restaurant is always full inside out regardless of occasion. Not to forget that most of the food items are cheap and big in portion.

Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup (RM 6.50) comes with bun and butter. Very straightforward, mixed mushroom soup in cream, topped with croutons. The taste reminds me of the creamy mushroom soup from Pizza Hut last time.

Oven Baked Escargot (RM 16.80 for 6 pieces). Spicy escargot baked with herb butter and melted cheese all over. Taste yummy like seriously, well baked. The combination from the melted cheese is impressive.

Grilled Chicken Chop (RM 17.80) served with daily vegetable and French Fries, mushroom sauce. Tender piece of protein, delicious mushroom gravy. The rest, french fries and daily vegetables are quite straightforward.

This above, is D'Fortune Western specialty - D'Fortune Assorted Chicken Sausages Platter (RM 25.80). A plate combination of chicken footlong frank, mushroom & chicken frank, farm house chicken frank, cheese & chicken frank and chicken breakfast chipolata served with onion ring and gravy. Very large in the actual view and quite filling.

Personal Summary: If you are looking for cheap eat, especially on western cuisine, this place is amazing BUT can be crowded during peak hours. Be there early to avoid stuck in a traffic congestion and to get better carpark nearby the restaurant.

Every country, place or even the universe - has its own best kept secret. Soon Heng Social Club is one of them, amassed their reputation with discreet way of conveying their messages through old, funky, or you can call it mystifying decorations, posters or props on the online platforms.

To be part of their social club member, it will take awhile to apply. Some said it took them a week, some may say a month or even dreadful, some gave up applying (not exaggerating) . The key to success is on the luck, timing and persistence. In fact, right into RMCO phase, I got my approval as soon as they posted up on their reopening.

Yes, mind you - by invitation only.

Classic old school board games, nostalgic poster of a young lad. Kids in the 70's will know.

It was the exotic props - wrapping the patrons back to the old days, bringing em' back the memories as you dine. In fact, some corners are dark with supernatural" elements. Beware.
The bar.

On the left is the Nutmeg Sour (RM 6) and on the right was the Artisan Hawthorn Berry (RM 8). The beverages did brought me back to my humble beginning before stepping into city, however, I realised, both drinks were a little too sweet. Feedback were given after payment.

For appetizer, I had the sharing platter of pork bossam with homemade kimchi, fresh herbs, ginger scallion sauce and sriracha (RM 35). A Korean inspired dish with Soon Heng's local twist especially on the ginger scallion sauce and the herbs used. Overall is a decent dish. It may also be tedious for intimacy dinner date.

For the main course, here's a plate of pan seared fresh market seabass with romesco sauce, grilled zucchini parmesan, lemon & thyme couscous and grilled king oyster mushrooms (RM 45). The best dish on that night, the catch was fresh - perfectly seasoned. Coupled with romesco sauce at the side to give brightness and hint of heat to it.

Another main was the grilled Vietnamese inspired premium pork shoulder chop with sambal matah, lemon & thyme couscous, ulam, grilled king oyster mushroom (RM 42). Portion was huge, worth the bucks, the grilled pork shoulder chop was good with the sambal matah. My only "tiny" complain on this dish was on the amount of sambal matah's raw ingredient superb annoying that it got stuck in between teeth. Damn.

Personal Summary: By reservation-booking only. Space can be a lil' tight for some people. The food might take longer than usual to arrive (appx. 20-30 minutes for appetizer. 45-60 minutes for main course). Price figure on menu might seems absurd but the portion is worth your buck. Food menu changes monthly.

Now, here's the question: Is Soon Heng still the 2020's best kept secret in town?

The last time I ate pork was months ago and it was called Bak kut teh (meat bone tea), most classic and prominent dish derived from Hokkien or Teochew clan. Bak kut teh is a meat dish cooked in broth popularly served around Malaysia or Singapore. However, this time I had decided to pay The Hungry Hog a visit because they are serving pork too!

Pork burger, ribs, pork chops, hommade sausages, asian staple with pork... You name it! - The Hungry Hog has it all ready!

In the inside, the decorations, furniture, plateware, cutleries and menu book are pretty simple, straightforward and neat. The lighting rather subtle to emit a comfortable, not-so-flashy rays, so that others can enjoy their palatable dinner here in The Hungry Hog. Hungry Hog can cater up to the maximum of 25-40 pax easily without any delay and I like the speed of the service that they are providing, flawless.

Here's The Hungry Hog Menu.

a) Hog House Special (RM 21.90)
Going green? Here's the Hog House Special contains romaine lettuce, ham, bacon, eggs, cubes of avocado, french beans and cherry tomatoes that dressed with balsamic vinegar. Nothing special to brag about this green...

b) Huevos Rancheros (RM 18.90)
This one is unique because its half health-conscious and another half towards sin. Huevos Rancheros served with pulled pork meat, tortillas, salsa, sunny-side up eggs and avocados slices. Grab the tortilla and fill em'!

c) Bangers & Mash (RM 19.90 because with mix)
Bangers & Mash appears to be one of the most ordered dish throughout their entire service. The dish, no doubt, absolutely vibrant and it almost seems like a German dish to me. Anyway, Bangers & Mash served with homemade pork sausages and mash potato dressed with onion gravy along side with green salad. Must order!

d) Phad Khrapao Muu (RM 14.90)
Tired of eating pasta in Western-style? Here in The Hungry Hog, they offered spaghetti in Asian variation. A plate of al dente spaghetti served with Thai-style spicy minced pork meat and topped with a perfect sunny-side up egg :) Awesome.

e) The HogFather (RM 98.90)
Meet the sinful HogFather whereby a plate is covered with assorted parts of the pork. This plate contains pork chops, pork patties, pork meatballs, pork ribs, homemade pork sausages, siew yuk (roasted pork meat in Chinese term) and pork bacon strips! A plate that can feed up to 3 pax.

f) Bacon Gelato (RM 9.90)
Bacon Gelato??!! YES! You heard it right, its a vanilla-flavored gelato ice cream with real bacon bits inside! The top was dressed with maple syrup as a compliment to the gelato and bacon bits.

Conclusion
If you are looking for a restaurant that serves pork, The Hungry Hog is the place to have it as they serve quite number of delicious pork meals at an affordable rate! Before I forget, be there early or make an early RSVP to avoid any disappointment, and also they accept cash term only!

Cherry Cheese Dessert best consume during hot summer days !

Ingredient(s) are:
-Ginger biscuit, or any biscuit will do( i used the Tiger Biscuit)
-Honey (Optional)
-125g Cream cheese [Room temperature*]
-Greek Yogurt or Natural Yogurt
-Sugar
-vanilla essense
-Icing Cereals
-Cherry !

*Note that you may notice why i do not provide specific weighting for each ingredients used except for Cream Cheese, because during the process - i  taste while making it, adjusting the taste according to my taste bud's need , so, in a nut shell, it is up to you whether you want your dessert to be over-power or not? in terms of taste.

Directions:
1- Crush your biscuits into fine bits, to ashe. LOL , place them into the glass, 1/3 of the glass will do.
2-You may add thin layer of honey or any other puree if you wish to~ otherwise , dont.
3-Add Cream Cheese, Natural Yogurt, sugar, and vanilla extract into a bowl, mix them till they are incorporate. Then pour them into the glass.
4-Finish it off by sprinkle few icing cereals and top up a cherry on top of it. DONE !

To be honest, the upper part can be anything, for instance whipping cream, fruits or etc. , depend on one's taste bud.

 See ya !

-Struggle to find a place to dine so that you are able to satisfy your own tummy?
-Are you afraid to dine outside because the portion of the meal does not scale well to it's price?
 OR PERHAPS ,
-Looking for a good restaurant just to treat your loved ones' just like me?

Allow me to introduce you the S.Wine Cafe @ Publika The Boulevard mall which located in Solaris Dutama, Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia !

Outside* view of the Publika Mall

The geographical location of the restaurant was placed deep inside Ben's Independent Grocer ( Level UG1 ) , which I find it difficult to discover ! However, thanks to the recommendations stated by other food critics, I'm able to find this restaurant with ease !

Front entrance into S.Wine Cafe by walking straight then turn right, and you will find a way in.

Pink piglets are the first thing you will see. [Decorations\prop]

S.Wine Cafe has very comfy and cool interior design , resulted in- customers'll definitely love it and treat it like their own house!

S.Wine Cafe menu, which is simple and neat.

^( Image size was set to 'Extra large' due to the menu font's size so that readers can read it without hassle ! Note that "Beverage" segment  printed on the next page, so , I think that the list of beverage is not a necessity to be display here because 'we all know what is it'. )

Below are images of finger-licking good meal !

Pea and Ham soup [ RM14 ] , pea was blended well and no lumps to be found , added with few blocks of ham and at last - topping decorate with fresh cream on it !

Hearty Vegetable Soup [ RM 14] a tomato-based soup, well balanced between the level of sour and salt.  Filled with Chunks of ham, cannellini beans, barley & sauteed vegetables , topped with parmesan cheese and fresh coriander.

Garlic & Arugula Pork Sausages with Sauerkraut Rosti [ RM 29 ] . Two huge grilled home made garlic & arugula pork sausages served with sauerkraut rosti and a dollop of sour cream.

Mexicana Pulled Pork [RM31] , pork burger slopped with mexicana pulled pork on a brioche burger bun, served with coleslaw & crinkled fries, not the best burger in town but at least better than the others, eg: MacDonalds?

Loaded Potato Skins [RM 14] : Potato skins loaded with bacon chips, melted mozzarella cheese and topped with sour cream. Once you bite, you can get lots of bacon chips with melted mozzarella in your mouth !

Pan Roasted Chicken A La Coq Au Vin [RM 29] ; Whole chicken leg braised in white wine, herbs , pancetta , & pork stock, served with toasted  ciabatta. I must say that this chicken meat was well tenderized while the white wine aroma was empowering.

Pork and pine nut sausage roll [RM 19]  :  Pork sausage meat with pine nuts, mushrooms & garlics, warped in puff pastry & baked till golden brown, served with tomato relish & side salad.

Pan-Roasted Pork Chops with Sauerkraut (RM29), in seeded mustard & cream sauce on a bed of crushed potatoes with bacon & sauerkraut, burts of tongue-tantalizing goodness.

Author's note:  As what you had viewed above, "a picture is worth a thousand words" is what I can say for now... The foods are amazing. Everything there are perfect and recommended ( depends on your own preferences ). Portion of the food are large , scaled well with it's price-which is reasonable. The waiters and waitress' are friendly and dedicated to their customers . What more can I say?

A reminder to all : If you don't want to queue for a table, be sure to make a reservation before you arrive or you can go there early before 7 p.m (peak hour) .
